Settings for suede and very fine leather.
Hi All, Anyone got some good cut settings for thin suede or very fine leather? This afternoon I spent two hours testing some very, very thin suede. (around 1.25mm) It cuts, but as soon as the laser strikes it, it shrinks. So you need a VERY low power setting. I've ended up with 15% power (60W) 15mm/...

Re: 3060 stuck in "absolute" positioning mode!
Unh! Yes, indeed! It is that obvious. I accidentally hit "SET LOGIC ORG" on the keypad. That means "Set logical origin" which does that. Going into "CANCEL LOGIC ORG" on the keypad and pressing "Yes" sorts the machine out again. It's only taken me five years t...

3060 stuck in "absolute" positioning mode!
Hello All, Here's a new one on me. One of my 3060s now insists on starting every cut from the top right. It doesn't matter whether I set a design to "immediate" mode or leave the box unticked for "absolute" positioning. It ALWAYS returns to the top right to start the next job. I'...

Re: laser bed mats?
Hi Rog, Another couple of tips: (1) Cut some perspex rectangles, about 20mm x 50mm, with a 3mm slot in the middle. Slot them together in pairs, and you have cross-shaped things which you can use to raise your workpiece off the bed. I use about 10 X's, and I seldom need to replace them. Obsessives ma...

Weird Engraving Glitch and How to Fix It
Hello All, Today I had a new issue, which I've not seen in more than five years of lasering. Lasercut kept making files that my 3060s wouldn't engrave. Sometimes, press "test" and the file beeps "out" - it's asking the machine to engrave or cut outside the bed size. Once I genera...

Re: Lasercut Crashes and How to stop them.
Hi Dave,
Interesting! I have lots of questions!
What new mainboard is recommended?
What does the mainboard upgrade do for you?
How much does it cost?
Does it unlock software other than Lasercut?
Does HPC supply this upgrade?
Will they fit it?
How much?
Cheers!
James

Lasercut Crashes and How to stop them.
Hi All, I use a setup whereby I run Windows inside Virtualbox, which is very up-to-date. Recently I've been experiencing nasty Lasercut 5.3 crashes. When I say nasty, they're the worst type. Instant black screen, laptop unusable and completely insensible (not just unresponsive to keystrokes - also u...

Re: Suppressing Stains on Light coloured Perspex
Thanks Dave! I've messed around with intermediate powers, and yes, I can get a good cut at 60-odd percent, but not every single time with every single colour. Branded perspex is exactly what I'm using, but I've been a smidge generous with the power just because a few colours really don't like to cut...

Suppressing Stains on Light coloured Perspex
Hello All, I've been looking into improving the quality of my cuts for perspex jewellery. Sure, I can get a nice cut quality, with a 60W tube on 75% power, at about 20mm/sec, but on light coloured perspex there's staining on interior angles where a hole is cut out. There's no staining on the convex ...

Re: Mystery Material
Thanks Stuart! That's really helpful. I'm surprised that it has such different lasering characteristics from cast acrylic. The meltyness (?!) I understand - but the smoke is most disconcerting. At least it won't be damaging if it's acrylic. Can you recommend approaches to lasering it? High speed or ...
