Re: Testing Tubes for Power?
Thanks Daves! Bottom line: it's probably not worth getting clever with this - even though this sort of testing could be a great way to compare laser tubes from different suppliers. I had a tip from a hackspace user: lasercut a paperback book (!) and see how many pages the laser penetrates! Fun (part...

Testing Tubes for Power?
Hi All,
I'm observing distinct differences in power output for various laser tubes. (I have experience of four tubes).
Is there a way to test the light output of a tube? Are sensors available for this?
Best,
James

Re: Cleaning the honeycomb bed
I've used trays for grow bags (B&Q, under a tenner) to soak honeycomb beds overnight. The cleaner I favour is "Citraclean" which is also a diluted citric acid. Bit of a scrub under a running tap in a Befast sink after a nights soak brings them up good as new. My top tip: if you're cutt...

Re: Warping Laser Laminate?
Nice one, PhillyDee! You are quite right. Turning the power down made a HUGE difference. The swarf that came off at power 25 is tiny but distinct (1mm?) flakes. The swarf at power 15 and higher speed is virtually invisible dust. The warping was suppressed by double-sided tape at faster speed and low...

Warping Laser Laminate?
Hello All, I've started to experiment with 1.5mm etchable laser laminate (from IPI Laserables) for signwriting. I've done a few small tests with some success - now I'm trying it on full size (250mm x 250mm) signs. I'm using etching (300mm/s 25% power) and I've taped the edges down, but the material ...

Re: Adjustments after a move
Sorted! After seemingly endless tweaking, cleaning and checking, I've returned the machine to 100% effectiveness. The solution was to reposition the laser tube itself. Clearly, when I moved it (up 25 stairs) it had become slightly displaced and was firing at the edge, not the centre, of the first mi...

Re: Adjustments after a move
Hi Dave, This is really helpful. I have digital temperature sensors on the water outlets of both machines, where they return to my coolant tank. They read out every 5 seconds to a screen I've set up for the purpose. Meanwhile, I have a chiller that cools the tank water. I seem to get a pretty consis...

Re: Adjustments after a move
Hmmm... After a few more tweaks it's very marginally better, but still seems underpowered. Maybe I'll have a think about flushing the coolant through the system. I'm also wondering about the power supply. Maybe some dust or debris reducing its output? And how about bubbles in the air pump, reducing ...

Re: Adjustments after a move
Hi Dave, The tube is a 60-watt tube, with no more than 300 hours on it. My other machine is older, and in the lead by 40 hours or so. I did some more cleaning this morning (went over the mirrors again, gently q-tipped the laser outlet itself, buffed the lens again) and the power increased perceptibl...

Adjustments after a move
Hi All, I've just moved my two 3060s and set them up in a new workshop. One of them is just fine - but the other one just doesn't want to cut as effectively as it did before. The laser power is definitely low. I've cleaned the mirrors and lens, checked the beam and mirror alignment, and made sure th...
