making a slot

Post by castalia »

I want to use the laser to make slots in a piece of MDF or plywood. I do not want to cut all the way through the wood. How do I do this?

You would have to engrave it. You will not be able to control the depth. Excperimentation will be required to find optimum setting.

Thanks, but I cant see a fill tool to fill the slot. I can only manage to outline it. Filling a shape from 2D designer does not carry across to the Lasercut software

There is no need for a fill tool. Not sure about the software you use, but lasercut has a Join Lines function (cannot check on exact icon or location as I have no internet in my unit at the moment to remote into the PC). Select what you want to join and then press join (a box with tolerance will pop up, this is to tell it what to join, if they leave gaps, you will need to set this to a small amount, the default is usually just fine) it will then change the lines into a single entity (which must be closed) which you will be able to set to the engraved layer.
