hi all
has anyone done an upgrade of there stepper motors to faster servo motors ?
ive recently purchased a second hand 90120 with a 150w tube upgrade
i was advised by the seller that i could cut at speeds of around 35 for 3mm mdf , but im not happy with how jagged the cut is, is it just worn out bearings on the runners or are the stepper motors not upto the job of cutting so fast
thanks Graham
upgrade old stepper motors to servo motors
Re: upgrade old stepper motors to servo motors
No benefit and very expensive to do brother, servo / ball screw / 6575 card is all well and good but a new machine with them already fitted would be cheaper.
The jagged cut is the product of temperature on the 150 watt, run slower at slightly less power to remove the "edge of a pound coin" look on acrylic and mdf.
Steppers will manage 400 mm per second without problem and in all the years I've been doing this I've never seen worn out guide rails (no matter how badly they get treated) so I'd be looking elsewhere for the cause
cheers
