urgent help with x axis slipping

Hi, I have a 3040 machine that's about 3 years old. When the machine cuts it works fine, but when engraving the x axis slips even when I slow the speed down to 50. I have had the motor checked by an electrician and he said the motor was good. You can feel the motor slipping if you place your fingers on the casing. Would it be possible to change the connectors from the x axis to the y axis on the driver to see if the problem goes to the y axis. Thanks for your help.
