Like a total doughnut I have lost my NewlyDraw 1.5 dongle for my USB HX3040 Laser!
Has anyone got one they could sell me?
Or perhaps I should try to upgrade the board (8.1) for something better. Anyone know how difficult it is to replace the board?
Lost Dongle? Should I replace or upgrade controller?

Best call HPC - they may have spares. Not sure upgrade would be worth it TBH

Yeah that's exactly what they said - "We may have a spare!" They'll let me know at the end of the week.
Not worth upgrading? Is that because the machine is quite old or because it is quite difficult?
Or 'cos if I lost the dongle I'll probably destroy it soon anyway

AFAIK the upgrade cost would not be cheap - you could ask HPC how much a LaserScript conversion would cost and if possible but you may find you would have to swap the motors and USB card - even power supply.
There are parts available from the US at around $500USD plus post but no idea if you would have problems with power differences or even safety...
If the machine has not done a lot of work and the running gear is ok and you are happy to invest the time and money (including having it safety checked) it maybe worth looking into but personally I would not bother (did look into it when I did have a 3020 and parts were available).

Aha ok. Thanks very much for taking the time to explain.
Re: Lost Dongle? Should I replace or upgrade controller?
I received my dongle from China and to my relief and surprise it works!
HPC were out of stock at the time but they have got some in now I think.

That's great - now the original will pop up
